CEE 226: Biological Treatment Processes


Covers fundamental and applied concepts of biological contaminant transformations in engineered and natural environmental systems.  Topics include the chemistry, thermodynamics, and kinetics of biological reactions; suspended and fixed-film treatment processes, and principles of bioremediation.

Faculty Biography

Mark MatsumotoMark Matsumoto received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from UC Irvine and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Engineering from UC Davis.  For the last thirty years, Dr. Matsumoto has been actively involved in research related to water quality, wastewater treatment, water reuse systems, and hazardous waste site remediation.  Dr. Matsumoto has served on numerous scientific review panels for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences, National Science, Foundation, Department of Defense, and various state agencies in California and New York.  He is a Lily Foundation Teaching Fellow, and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
